Kilbraur Wind Energy Co-op purchased a stake in the Kilbraur wind farm on the 3rd November 2008 after raising a total of £1,043,900! In July 2011 the members of the co-op were given the opportunity to purchase a further stake in the additional 8 turbines at the Wind Farm Extension, near Golspie, Sutherland.
The wind farm is located in Strath Brora, Sutherland, Scotland, and consists of 27 x 2.5Mw turbines.
To generate clean, green electricity and help reduce reliance on existing less environmentally-friendly energy resources.
The Kilbraur Wind Energy Co-op is part of a family of co-ops being developed by Energy4All Ltd in partnership with Falck Renewables Wind Limited.
FACTS ABOUT THE CO-OP
5 Directors, each of whom carry out roles that deliver specific support to the benefit of the co-op
Energy4All to carry out the day-to-day management & administration of the co-op
Profits from the turbines are distributed to community funds, such as sustainable energy educational activities in the local area along with share interest to the members
The wind farm generates enough clean, green electricity to supply around 27,000 homes per year
It is estimated that the wind farm will displace up to 107,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year
